When a business leader acts and thinks like a coach, you can guarantee success. Why?
If you are a football coach, for instance, you got to be perceptive. You need to believe in your team and in what you are doing. But not all leaders act like that. Some get too rigid! They don’t want to change or adapt – They think it will make them look powerless and incapable of making decisions. But this is wrong! Remember, you got to be flexible! That’s the key of success!
So you are the football coach. You have a game plan. A scratch book. You’re going into the game, and what’s going to happen? Maybe you have planned every single detail but the other team is not performing as expected? They are not doing what you thought they would do?!
It might be the time to adjust!
Are you flexible enough to adjust? At this point, you have to understand that if you keep doing the same thing you will not achieve the success you aspire to. That’s one of the considerable methods in coaching and leadership. To be able to adjust is to be brave enough to say: “my plan was acceptable but it’s not going to work today. I got to do something else!”
Instinct – Use it, don’t ever lose it, and learn to Snooze it!
Trust your instinct, but be smart enough to change your course if your surrounding is demanding it. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose! But how you act afterwards is what will define you as a leader. Great leaders come in different shapes, but to stay on top, they need to predict opportunities and risks, and based on this – they need to adapt!
When you can apply that as a coach and a leader, that’s when you are going to become successful.
“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.” — Jack Welch
Be flexible, make adjustment. Not everything in life is rigid. Because if it is rigid, it will break, if it is flexible, it will bend. That’s what you have to do sometimes – Bend, But Don’t Break!
