You’re Fired!

So You’re FIRED! Now what?

You’re fired! Now, what are you going to do? It’s one of the worst feelings ever! Laid off…Fired…it’s the same thing – You don’t have a job anymore!

First thing you need to do is to come up with an action plan!

There is a possibility that you might have gotten “the package”, maybe even one year of a full salary – in one month at a shot!

The first thing usually most people do is to relax. They think they are safe now… they have enough money, they go on a vacation, they tend to enjoy as much as they can!

But, this might be the wrong way to go!

You need to actually act like you don’t have that money – this is your fund now; don’t blow it! Actually, this could be the best thing that has happened to you lately – if you grab this opportunity and use it right!

 But HOW?

 First: Create a budget

Be aware of how much money you are spending. Forget about the unnecessary expanses and remember only what you need to do to save money or even to earn extra money. You don’t have to give up on your current needs, you just need to have a spending plan.

Second: Create an Action plan

Your action plan has to be easy and reliable. Create a plan and hang it in a visible place.

This plan means – you work 5 days a week, you rest 2 days only.

Action Plan

 1.     Get up early

If you’ve been waking up early every single morning for the last 5 years, don’t stop today!

You need to be focused and available during the day. If you start losing many nights on watching TV or even worse, it will be visible on your skin, eyes and in your behaviour after all. And the Last thing you would want is to get an unexpected phone interview and miss the opportunity to get a meeting because of it.

2.     Exercise

You don’t need to pay for expensive gym classes or personal body trainers, just go for a quick walk, for instance. You need 30 minutes per day to spend on your exercise. You will feel much better, you will release Endorphin (the so called “Happy hormone”) and happy people can get what they want, whenever they want!

3.     Expand your Job Search

You need to stay updated with all the changes and market trends. Your new employer will forgive a “blank period” in your resume, but will not forgive you for staying way behind. Be proactive. Read newspapers, follow blogs and subscribe for newsletters that are close to your field. You can also click here to find a great job!

Go online and search for self-assessment. Also use your free time to enhance your skills and build your professional network on Jobzella!

4.     Ask for recommendation

You got fired! So what?! There is at least one person in the management that will write you a recommendation. Maybe it will be your customer, or even a business partner. You have the right to ask for a letter of recommendation. Use this right! You have free time now, be persistent!

5.     Enjoy your time!

You lost your job – it’s not the end of the world! Again, this might be the best thing that has ever happened to you. It is a trigger to push you to do something new and better for yourself!

Don’t close up in your room and start crying! Don’t lose faith! Have FUN!

This is your opportunity too to get in touch with all the people you didn’t talk with much lately because of your tough agenda. Call them, visit them, have a coffee. People will start noticing that you look fresh and happy. This is your opportunity to show them that you are on the job market and available.

6.     Start your own business

If you made your action plan and you’ve been sticking to it, you managed your budget, and you finally find out what you want from your life – Well, you started to think like an Entrepreneur! Maybe it’s time to take a chance? Remember, when one door closes, another opens!
