1. You do not have a proper CV

If your CV is not up to the minimum standards, you will never pass the first round. Employers will not even ask for an interview. Unfortunately, nine out of ten of the CVs usually do not match the least standards.

In fact, in most of the CV guides out there, there are no realistic measures that are indeed needed in the hiring requirements. Also if your CV does not contain the right keywords, it will never appear on the search done by the recruiters and you’ll not get a job. 2. You are not networking enough

Almost most jobs these days are found through networking. We actually believe that the opposite of networking is NOT working!

3. You are not following the exact directions in the posting

Some job postings, ask questions related to the vacancy or why you think you are good for this job. A brief statement with your CV telling the recruiter more about yourself is highly recommended and only few people come with a good answer. Do what you are asked to do in the job posting or by the hiring manager. It might be understood in a wrong way, that if you are not going to do what the recruiter asks you to. Properly then you are not going to do what your future boss will ask you to do when you are employed.

4. You are unprepared

If you go up against one of the highly prepared candidates, you’re going to lose and lose big. Don’t be less than others! Put a plan, ask for help in how to act during the interviews, and answer situational questions.

This also is important for phone interview. Being unprepared is usually the reason why you can’t find a job. Those who have a great attitude and have been able to overcome depression, anger and unrealistic expectations, will usually land in a solid floor.

5. You are not entirely ready for the interview and you are giving negative answers

You need to know the position you are applying for, the company’s history, mission, vision, competitors, and many other common questions. Do your homework first. The HR personnel will know if you are not prepared; they are too experienced for any tricks. Remember that you must NEVER give any negative views about anything when you are being interviewed.

6. Expecting too much in salary

If your qualifications and experience are not good enough, do not expect the market will match your expectation. Do not believe the wrong information of news and surveys on a career or job site says that you should be getting X salary per month, don’t trust them a hundred percent. Surveys and reality are very different. And you have to negotiate your job offer carefully.

7. Not matching the requirements of the job post

If you are not a 70-80% match for what they are looking for, sending your CV to them will be a complete waste of time. Look at the requirements carefully, before you send your CV. Target the right job advertisements and you will be able to get the job easier and avoid disappointments.

Never apply for a job that does not match your profile, you will be rejected anyways. And it might affect your future with this company even if you are applying to the right job this next time, as you might be marked as “unqualified” on their system and this mark will appear on all other jobs you will apply to.

8. You do not express any passion or sincerity about the job

If the interviewer has this feeling about you, it is very likely that you will not be successful. So, feel passionate about the job; make them feel that you really like this job, but do not overdo it. It is a thin line between the two. Actually you should work for a purpose, or not at all!

9. You cannot communicate

Don’t make the interviewer hardly getting information out of you. If you can’t communicate well, you won’t get employed. If you do happen, by some miracle, to get employed, you won’t last long. Communication is the prime key of success.

10. You are overqualified

I know you might be desperate, but realistically, no one will hire someone with 10+ years of experience with a great deal of responsibility in their last job for an entry-level job.

Entry-level jobs will be filled by entry-level people. When the recruiter sees someone with extensive experience applying for an intern job, he knows that they’ll be gone in a heartbeat if something in their field comes along, and that they won’t stay and grow with the company. Highly experienced candidates won’t be coachable and generally be a pain in the neck if they are doing a lot less job than they used to do.
