Here is Why You are Not Getting Hired

If you are reading this, that means you are actively trying to get yourself hired or trying to advance to a better job. If you are wondering why your Jobzella Profile isn’t getting much love from recruiters or why no one is calling despite the millions of CVs you send out every day, here is why you are not being hired or interviewed.

1-Your Digital Footprint

All Social Networks come with a public profile and a private profile, the latest statistics point out to the fact that 55% of recruiters will change their minds about an applicant after checking their social networks profile. Your digital footprint is what you leave out in cyber space; consider the image you are projecting. Just try to Google Yourself.

2- cutesoso@whatever.com

That is not a real professional looking email address and recruiters can think you are not that serious about a professional life. Keep those funky emails for chatting with friends and create an email that actually contains your first and last name or initials only.

3- Applying for ALL Positions

Put yourself in your recruiter’s shoes for a second, their company just advertised 14 vacancies between Marketing, Sales, IT and Graphic Design and you just applied to ALL of them. What does that tell them? Simply, they think you are joking or you just want to get a job but got no real talent or worse, you think they are not smart enough to notice, who would want to hire that person?

4- You Lie on Your Resume

Suddenly a junior became a senior or instead of 8 months on the job, you were “employed” for 18 months, a professional recruiter can spot a lie a mile away. Stick to the truth, always.

5- Your Jobzella Profile Picture is a Beach Selfie

Seriously speaking, you are fun loving and that is great but when a recruiter checks your Jobzella Profile, he/she has a certain image in mind and that image is most certainly not you in your trunks joking around on the beach. Aim for a professional looking photo that clearly shows your “un-tanned” face, even a passport photo is better than a beach selfie.

6- Templates, Templates, Templates

The moment they read “Looking for a respectable position in a multinational”, your CV is automatically discarded or archived. Don’t copy and paste from templates. Instead, say what you really want and consider writing a separate cover letter per each job application, it shows dedication and originality.

7- CTRL+ F7

That is a great option that every single computer is now giving you. The ability to spell check and grammar check everything you write. Poor grammar is a recruiter’s turn off, don’t fall into that trap.

8- Where is the Passion?

It is not true that Jobs require no passion and only skills. If a recruiter senses from your resume and cover letter that you have no passion or love for what you are trying to do, he/she will not hire you.

9- Lack of Follow up OR Too Much Follow Up

Once you have sent your resume and cover letter to a recruiter, it is very important that you actually do follow up on it after a working week. Only one follow up attempt is allowed, don’t start calling or emailing every single day, don’t stalk your potential employer.

10- You are Under Qualified

Sending a resume or applying for a job that requires a minimum of 10 years of experience when you are a fresh graduate on the hopes that “It Might Just Happen” sends a signal that you either are delusional or joking around. Not only will you be disqualified for this vacancy, this recruiter will make a mental note to NEVER hire you anywhere in his establishments.

Your CV and Jobzella Profile aren’t just words on a screen; they are basically a very brief concise way of showing who you really are. Next time you are applying for a job, consider what you really want the recruiter to think about you not what you think of yourself.
