5 Common mistakes in sales, you may do without even realizing!

Sales is the career where you are judged almost exclusively by your results. Being a ‘nice man’ doesn’t cut it, on its own. You’ll be expected to achieve specific levels of performance, and if you don’t do this, you’ll be as visible as a sore thumb. And you’ll probably lose your job. Being an unsuccessful sales person isn’t much fun.
Firms need to make sales to survive, and usually reward successful salespeople highly, to ensure that they stay in the job. And it’s fair enough, because the better the salesperson, the more he or she will earn.

     1.Neglecting research:

Let’s face it, research  is boring. It’s time-consuming and feels too much like homework to get excited about. So it’s no wonder that most salespeople don’t look forward to do it.
On the other hand, 88% of missed opportunities are caused because sales couldn’t find or leverage internal resources, but researching is the most significant step of sales process.

    2.Being Mr.YES:

When a potential customer makes a request, you normally want to say “yes”. And once you say yes a few times, you’ll realize that the customer will keep making requests. Each one of these requests will not only cost you money, but also it will let the customer know that he/she can be demanding and walk all over you.
If what a customer wants is profitable to you and you can deliver, say yes without thinking, but, If the request is unreasonable, say NO. By setting this precedent early on, you’ll have more happy customers.

    3.Not Focusing on the goal:

Definitely, You’re in sales meetings to make sales. So, why would you spend your time chatting about random topics with a potential customer?
You don’t have people’s undivided attention forever. So, make sure you are keeping track of time to get your message across as quickly as possible, and then you can take time for chatting.

   4.Overselling:

Like avoiding offering potential customers too much information, you will be wise to not oversell. Don’t forget this rule “If you’re too pushy, you’ll turn off a lot of people”.
You have to think of sales like dating a girlfriend. If you reek of desperation, no one will be attracted to you. You have to be casual with your sales techniques and act like you don’t care about making the sale. Eventually, if your product or service is that good, the person you are selling to should feel privileged to use it.

   5.Not following ups:

Now, You’ve made the first contact and it looks like there is interest, but they didn’t buy. What to do now? The answer is “ Follow-up”. Don’t forget to follow-up.
It’s coming off as too general to most sales professionals, but it is problem, because SALES is not a one and done activity. The best sales professionals follow a process that has brought them closed their deals. So, Don’t forget, the crucial part of sales processes is the follow up.
